Session Replay
Watch recordings of user sessions

Session replay lets you watch anonymized recordings of real user sessions, showing mouse movements, clicks, scrolls, and page navigation.
Enabling Session Replay
Enable session replay in your site settings. The tracking script picks the setting up automatically — no script tag changes are needed. (Script-tag attributes like data-replay-batch-size and the data-replay-mask-* options only tune replay behavior; the on/off switch lives in site settings.)
On Rybbit Cloud, session replay is a Pro feature. Pro trials with a monthly limit of 500,000 events or more don't include replay. Self-hosted instances have no plan gate.
Recording makes the tracking script about 8x larger and sends more data from the browser, so only turn it on if you plan to watch replays.
What You'll See
- Mouse movements and clicks
- Scrolling behavior
- Page navigation
- Form interactions (inputs masked by default)
- User details: country, device, browser
Next to the player, the Timeline lists what happened in the session: clicks, rage clicks, navigations, typing, and window resizes. Switch between Key and All to change how much detail it shows. Use the Min Duration filter on the Replay page to hide short sessions.
While a replay plays, press ← or → to skip 10 seconds and Space to play or pause. See keyboard shortcuts.
Using Session Replay
- UX optimization - Identify where users get stuck or confused
- Debug issues - See exactly what happened when users report problems
- Understand behavior - Go beyond metrics to see the full user story
- Share with your team - Collaborate on findings
Privacy
There is no masking switch in site settings. You control masking with attributes on the script tag:
data-replay-mask-all-inputsmasks every input value. It is on by default; set it to"false"to record input values.data-replay-mask-text-selectorstakes a JSON array of CSS selectors whose text is masked, for example'[".user-name", "#email"]'.data-replay-block-selectorand therr-blockclass leave elements out of the recording entirely.
See the script reference for every data-replay-* option.
Limits
Rybbit stops storing a session's replay once it reaches 50 MB. The rest of the session still shows up in your analytics; only the recording stops. On a self-hosted instance you can change the cap with the SESSION_REPLAY_MAX_MB_PER_SESSION environment variable (0 turns it off).
On Rybbit Cloud, each plan also has a monthly replay quota: the number of recorded sessions is capped at 10% of the plan's monthly event limit (for example, 10,000 replays on a 100,000-event plan). The quota covers all sites in the organization and resets at the start of each calendar month. Once it's used up, new replays aren't recorded until the next month, but the rest of your analytics keeps working. Self-hosted instances have no replay quota.
