User Journeys

Visualize how users navigate your site

User Journeys Dashboard

User journeys show the actual paths people take as they move through your website, revealing how they flow from page to page. Journeys cover sessions that visit two or more pages, starting from the first page of the session. On Rybbit Cloud, journeys need a Standard plan or higher.

Controls

  • Goal - Pick a goal to see how many sessions reach it, and to filter the top paths by it
  • Group pages - Exact path keeps every page separate; By section groups pages into their site sections
  • Starts at and Ends at - Only show paths that start or end on a page or pattern. * matches one path segment, ** matches several.
  • Steps - How many steps deep to map, from 2 to 10
  • Show - How many top paths to draw

You can also filter each step column by page.

Stats

The band above the diagram shows Multi-page sessions, Avg path length, Top entry page, Top exit after 2+ pages, and, when a goal is selected, the share of sessions that Reach it.

Reading the Visualization

Nodes

Each bar represents a page. Its height is the number of sessions on the paths shown that reached that point. Click a page name to open it on the Pages tab.

Connections

Lines between nodes show the flow. Thicker connections mean more sessions took that path.

Flow Direction

The visualization flows left to right, from the first page of the session onward.

Pinning a path

Click a path to pin it. The pinned path shows, step by step, how many sessions got that far and how many continued. Click Unpin path to clear it.

Top Paths

Below the diagram, Top paths lists the most common exact page sequences with their sessions, share, and change against the comparison period. Use Filter paths by page to find paths that contain a page, and, when a goal is selected, choose All paths, Reach the goal, or Never reach it.

Each path has these actions:

  • Sessions - List the sessions that took the path. Switch to With a replay to see only sessions you can watch.
  • Replays - List replays of sessions on the path, when session replay is on
  • Save as funnel - Open Create Funnel with the path as the steps, so you can save it as a funnel

Key Patterns to Look For

  • Happy Path - The most common route to conversion
  • Drop-off Points - Where many sessions enter but few continue
  • Backtracking - Sessions moving backward, often indicating confusion
  • Alternative Routes - Unexpected paths to important pages

Using Journey Insights

  • Simplify complex paths - Create shortcuts to important pages
  • Fix drop-off points - Investigate why visitors leave at certain pages
  • Amplify successful paths - Make high-converting routes easier to follow
  • Reduce backtracking - Improve navigation where visitors get lost
